Artist's Description
Baleen is a filter-feeder system inside the mouths of baleen whales. Baleen hair is attached to each baleen plate and when the whale opens its mouth, it takes in water. Then it pushes the water out, leaving the fish in its mouth as a food source. In this case, the whale was feeding on sandlance.
